The recipient was a resident of Selby, Yorkshire & was awarded the MM for services in France with the 9th Tank Corps in the London Gazette 11-2-1919 with the following citation
During the action near Dury on September 3rd 1919 M.S.Sjt Kilburn accompanied by L-Cpl lane went out to a tank which had received a direct hit on the day previous, although the tank was under direct observation of the enemy & was being heavily shelled, he succeeded in reaching the tank & repaired the engine. They then drove the tank back to the company. By his gallant conduct the tank was in all probability saved from receiving further direct hits. M.S.Sjt Kilburn showed an utter disregard for his own personal safety & set a fine example of devotion to duty under very trying circumstances.
L-Cpl lane the tank driver was awarded the DCM for this action.
