Henry William Pursell was born in St Albans, Hertfordshire 2-3-1881 & enlisted in to the Royal Navy as a boy in 1896. He served onboard HMS Barrossa during the Boer war & took his discharge in 1911. He was recalled to the colours in 1917 and served onboard HMS Calypso 1917 to 1919 when he returned to shore & took his discharge.
