Alfred Cross was a coalminer from Purston near Feathersone, Yorkshire when he enlisted in the the Household battalion. He received a gun shot wound to the left thigh 26-6-1917 & went on to be transferred to the Grenadier Guards in January 1918. He returned home at the wars end & went back to the mines. He served as a Special Constable 1938 to 1946.
