Peter Willis was both born & enlisted in Gateshead, County Durham & first landed overseas 12-9-1914 serving with the 1st battalion of the Royal Lancaster Regiment. He was sadly killed in action in France & Flanders 13-10-1914 just one month after arriving overseas. He was 22 years of age at the time of his death & having no known grave he is commemorated on the Ploegstreert memorial in Belgium. The CWGC state that he was the late son of Son of Frank and Ann Willis, of 8, Hopper St., Gateshead-on-Tyne. He is entitled to the August to November clasp for the ribbon of his 1914 star & this is confirmed on his MIC. Sadly the actual clasp is missing from the group but the recipients entitlement is fully confirmed.
