Lancelot George Thomson from West Hartlepool attended Sunderland Bede Collegiate boys school & enlisted in to the 41st Siege battery of the Royal Garrison Artillery. He first landed in France 10-12-1915 & went on to be awarded the MM for services in France in the London gazette 11-5-1917. He went on to become B.Q.M.SJT at Clarence barrack in Portsmouth & his old school honour roll states that he was present at the bombardment of Hartlepool in 1914. He took his discharge at the wars end & in the 1949 local elections he stood as a conservative candidate for Sunderland but he did not win & the seat was retained by the Labour party.
