Frederick Smith Barwick was born in Hull 6-3-1894 & enlisted in to the Royal Naval Reserve 10-8-1914 whilst living at 2 Whitfield Avenue, Hull. He served with the R.N.R 1914-1919 & was discharged in 1919. He was serving as the 2nd Engineer onboard the fishing vessel the S.T Braconburn which was a 225 grt steam trawler that had been requisitioned as a blockship and was on route for Scapa Flow. She sank on 30 July 1944 after a collision with Le Baron Russell Briggs off Bell Rock at position 56° 35' N, 02° 10' W. All six crew members were lost & they are all commemorated on the Tower Hill memorial. He was 51 years of age at the time of his death.
