Alexander Jacob Lion was born in Highbury, Middlesex and enlisted in London whilst living in West Hampstead. He was killed in action in France & Flanders 24-6-1915 whilst serving with the 9th battalion. He has no known grave and as such he is commemorated on the Menin gate memorial at Ypres. He was 27 years of age at the time of his death and is recorded by the C.W.G.C as the late son of Jacob Lion of 100 Broadhurst Gardens, Hampstead. He was a member of the Jewish faith and is pictured in the british Jewery book of honour on page 12 and he also has a standard entry in the main body of the book.
