Cornelius Joseph Tobin was born in to a military family in India 28-10-1910 & returned to the UK at the age of 5. He was educated at Carlisle Grammar school & upon leaving at the age of 16 went in to the oil industry & also had a short spell in the Merchant Navy. He enlisted as a surveyor with the Royal Artillery & trained at Sandhurst. He was commissioned in to the 2nd Punjab Regiment in 1935 & served on the Khyber pass. He spent most of WW2 as a Colonel with 33 corps in Burma & was M.I.D for services in Burma in 1944. He finished the war as a Brigadier & was awarded the C.B.E in 1945 whilst director of supplies in Burma. He served as a staff officer in both Korea & Malaya & finally retired in 1961. He returned to work in the oil industry & finally retired in 1975. He was acting president of the Ordnance in India association & president of the Galloway & upper Nithsdale conservative & unionist association. He passed away in Scotland 21-4-1998.
GVF/NEF & Court mounted for wear. Both the reverse of the ribbons on the group & the ribbon of the C.B.E have old glue residue to the reverse having once been housed in a frame.
