Walter Marsh first served overseas with the 6th service battalion of the York & Lancaster regiment. He transferred to the 9th service battalion of the West Yorkshire Regiment & in November of 1916 he was admitted to hospital with trench foot & at that stage he had been serving overseas for six months. He again transferred to the 2/5th battalion of the same regiment & is recorded as having been wounded 20-11-1917. He was once again transferred to the 11th service battalion of the West Yorkshire Regiment on his return to duty & was once again recorded as having been wounded 1-1-1918. He was a resident of Sheffield & was discharged to the reserve at the wars end.
