Hebert Chester Gray from Daventry, Northamptonshire enlisted in to the Royal Field Artillery in 1892 & served in South Africa during the Boer was with the 42nd Battery.R.F.A. He was M.I.D for his services in South Africa by Sir George White in the London gazette 8-2-1901 & was commissioned in to his own unit as a temporary QM & Hon Lieutenant 14-8-1914. He was wounded on the Somme in 1916 when his horse was shot from under him & M.I.D for services in France in the London gazette 18-5-1917. He awarded the Military M.B.E for gallantry not in the face of the enemy. in the London Gazette 18-11-1918 for services in France & Flanders & left the army at the wars end. He sadly passed away in Yorkshire in 1935 age 60.
A scarce combination of awards with a rare Gallantry M.B.E & a M.I.D for each conflict he served in.
