Edmund Cliff was born in the village of Bramley near Rotherham, South Yorkshire in 1867 & enlisted in to the Royal Navy as a boy in 1875. He served onboard HMS Boadicea during the Witu campaign of 1890 & by the time of the 1902 Coronation he was serving onboard the Royal Yacht Victoria & Albert. He was awarded his LS&GC whilst still serving on the Royal Yacht & was pensioned to shore in 1907. He was recalled for service in WW1 & again left the service at the wars end & returned to Rotherham to become a pub landlord & sadly passed away in 1930 at the age of 63. The 1902 coronation was presented to the recipient by the king onboard the royal yacht & has been neatly named as such on the reverse of the medal.
