Frank White from Manchester first landed overseas in France 11-5-1915 serving with the R.A.M.C & Went on to be transferred to the 21st battalion of the Manchester Regiment & was wounded by gunshot in 1916. On his recovery he transferred to the Machine Gun Corps & went on to be awarded the DCM for services in France in the London gazette 26-11-1917 & this was followed by the award of the Belgian Croix-De-Guerre also for services in France in the London gazette 12-7-1918.The London gazette states that he was a resident of Radcliffe, Manchester & the citation for the award of the DCM states, For conspicuous gallantry & devotion to duty. When his officer had become a casualty he led his guns forward to a position gained by the infantry. He remained some 200 yards in front of the line for two days, during which time his guns dispersed attempted counter attacks. Several of his men became casualites.
