John Fraser from Inverness was a 21 year old member of the 1st V.B Cameron Highlanders when he enlisted in to the 1st battalion for service in South Africa 15-3-1900 at Inverness. He served with the 1st battalion in South Africa from 14-4-1900 through to 28-4-1901 when he returned to the UK & was discharged at his own request 29-5-1901.His service papers state he served as a piper from 28-3-1900 through to his discharge & the medal roll states pte (Piper) although the medal is named to him as a pte.
