Arthur Beck from Marylebone, London enlisted in to the Shropshire Light Infantry age 15 in 1894 as a band boy. He served with the regiment in the Boer war of 1899-1902 & transferred to the Army Service Corps at the end of the campaign. He first landed in France 10-8-1914 as a warrant officer with the 18th depot supply unit of the A.S.C & the clasp to his 1914 star is confirmed on his M.I.C. He went on to be awarded the immediate M.S.M for services in France in the London gazette 3-6-1919 & had previously been mentioned in despatches also for services in France in the London gazette 15-6-1916.
