The recipient originally enlisted in to the Royal Scots & his service number is part of the number block issued to that regiment. He was awarded the B.E.M in the London gazette 2-6-1944 with the following recommendation.
This NCO has been in charge of the cookhouse and feeding at this HQ since 22-12-1939. At all times particularly under very difficult conditions in the field, he has carried out his duties conscientiously , and efficiently. His one thought is always for those he serves and his unselfishness is an inspiration and example to all ranks. The worse the conditions the more he is determined to maintain the high standards of normal times. The standard of messing at this HQ is particularly high and has been reported as such by the D.C.A. Cpl Hamilton works heart & soul for the betterment of his colleagues. The men are more than grateful to him and the officers can give nothing but the highest praise for his unceasing devotion to duty and any acknowledgement of his endeavors would be wholeheartedly approved by everybody at this HQ.
He was awarded his efficiency medak in army order 69 of 1946.
