Agnes Twaddle Alexander

Born 19 August 1912 in Eddleston, Peeblesshire, Scotland.

She was the daughter of Adam Alexander (b.24 Nov 1886 – 9th Oct 1955, Edinburgh) and Janet Turner Alexander (nee Blaikie, b.1887- died 9 Oct 1969, Edinburgh)

She enlisted in the Auxiliary Territorial Service, serving 194 days in the ranks, then as a Warrant Officer Class 2, for 1 year 139 days before being commissioned a Company Assistant (equivalent of 2nd Lieutenant) 16th October 1940.

After June 1941, this rank was renamed Second Subaltern which she was duly gazetted LG 5/8/41 Miss Agnes ALEXANDER (192403) as of 30th May 1941.

The award of her Efficiency Medal (Territorial) as Sub., A.T.S. appeared in the LG 16/9/47 and the 1st Clasp to the Efficiency Medal (Territorial) under ATS as Sub. A. ALEXANDER (192403) (now Maj., W.R.A.C.) in the LG 29/6/51.

She was granted a short service commission in the Women’s Royal Army Corps from A.T.S. emergency commission as a subaltern on 1st March 1949 with seniority from 24th April 1941 LG 25/11/49 and was promoted Junior Commander 13 December 1949 with seniority from 1/11/47.

As Agnes Twaddle Alexander (192403) she was granted a regular commission as a Lieutenant in the WRAC on 24th June 1950 and promoted Captain the same day. She was promoted Major shortly afterwards on 9th August 1950.

She retired on account of disability on 26th November 1960 aged 48.
