Cecil Hirst was both born & enlisted in Halifax. He first landed in France 15-4-1915 serving with the 1/4th battalion of the West Riding Regiment & was sadly killed in action in France & Flanders 11-12-1915. He was 18 years of age at the time of his death and was the late son of Mr.G.H.Hirst who was the manager of the English card clothing company in Halifax. He has no known grave but is commemorated on the Menin gate memorial at Ypres. The CWGC state that he was the late 19 year old son of George Henry & Anna Hirst of 10 Glen terrace, Clover Hill, Halifax.
