William Hughes was born in Wallasey 27-12-1893 & first landed in France 3-5-1915 serving with the 1/8th battalion of the Liverpool Regiment / The Liverpool Irish. He was listed on the casualty list dated 18-9-1916 as suffering from Shell Shock and this stated that he was a resident of Seacombe. He was listed as having being taken prisoner of war at Guillemont 30-8-1916 whilst serving with B- Company of the Liverpool Irish.He went on to serve with the regiment with service numbers 305754 & 3757917. He went on to serve with the 4/5th battalion of the Cheshire Regiment whilst living in Wallasey, Cheshire & when this battalion was converted to an ack ack battery of the RA.He continued to serve with them & was awarded the Territorial efficiency medal in 1931 & this was followed by the Efficiency medal with Territorial Suspender in 1949. He passed away in Wallasey 20-1-1962 age 68.
