John George Shaw from Wolsingham was a pre war member of the 6th battalion of the Durham Light Infantry & was awarded the T.F.E.M after 12 years service 1-4-1914. He enlisted in to the H.A.C in London in July 1917 stating that he was a 31 year old bank manager from Wolsingham & that he had seen prior service with the 2nd V.B & 6th Durham Light Infantry. He served with the 1st H.A.C in France & was commissioned in to the D.L.I in 1919. After leaving the army he went on to join his local Special Constabulary in Wolsingham as part of the Durham constabulary & served with them throughout all of WW2.
