Richard John Ellis was born at Stonehouse, Plymouth, Devon 25-1-1879 & enlisted as a Bugler in the R.M.L.I in London 15-4-1893. He served onboard HMS Barrosa from 1-1-1898 through to 24-5-1901. He was invalided to shore & discharged in 1913 & his service papers note that he died 29-9-1917.
