To- 83564.DVR.P.FARNWORTH.R.E
Peter Farnworth first landed in France 9-10-1915 serving with the 106th field company of the Royal Engineers as part of the 25th Division & was discharged to the class Z army reserve at the wars end.
The trio comes complete with the original parchment citation for the award of a Roumanian decoration to the recipient & this states.
For consistent gallantry & good conduct in France since September 1915.L-Cpl Farnworth's section has always been the best in the Coy & their work under heavy fire has been of a high Standard. On November 3rd L-Cpl Farnworth was in charge of a sub section of bridging wagons which came under shell fire, wounding two horses. He freed the horses himself & got his waggons into assembly position despite a heavy barrage. On 4th November on the way to Landrecies his transport were subjected to heavy bursts of fire which upset his men who were not of his own unit. His energy and personal example steadied them & got them to the place in time.
I can find no trace of any foreign decoration to this recipient in the London Gazette or in any published work. The citation is 100% genuine & was obtained with the trio direct from the recipients family.
