Herbert Knaggs was awarded the MM for services in France in the London gazette 17-7-1917 with the 2/1st West Riding Field ambulance.
The recipients original copy of his MM citation is included with the group & gives the following details.
Whilst in charge of bearers at a regimental aid post on 3rd May 1917 worked for three days & nights without rest under continuous shell fire. He posted all relays and stretcher parties & particularly on the night of the 4th instance. When the enemy were heavily shelling the vicinity, he stayed with the bearers & carried out his work with great coolness & ability. His example to the personnel under his charge, his complete disregard of danger and the assistance which he rendered by carrying stretchers himself gave great encouragement and contributed largely to the success of the evacuation of the wounded.
NEF & rare to find a copy of the recipients MM citation. Complete with the lid for the box of issue for the WW1 pair. Along with MIC details, medal roll details & London gazette details.
