Cpl George Robert Jones was serving with the 55th / 53rd battalion of the Australian Infantry when he was killed in action at Sanananda, halfway between Buna & Gona, on the coast of Oro Province Papua New Guinea 7-12-1942. He was 31 years of age and is buried in Port Moresby (Bomana) war cemetery. He was born in Newcastle, New South Wales 14-1-1911 and enlisted at Paddington NSW 3-3-1942. The CWGC state that he was the late son of George Peabody Jones & Hannah Jones & the late husband of Muriel Jones of St. Peters, New South Wales.
