Thomas George Allen was both born & enlisted in Birmingham. He first landed in France 12-8-1914 serving with the 2nd battalion & was awarded the DCM in the London gazette 11-3-1916 with the following citation.
For conspicuous gallantry. Company Quartermaster SJT Allen & L-Cpl.Swinnerton crawled out along the towpath in spite of heavy fire and with utter disregard of danger rescued no fewer than two wounded officers & ten men.
He was sadly killed in action in France & Flanders 17-2-1917 and having no known grave he is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial. He was 38 years of age at the time of his death and is recorded by the CWGC as the late husband of Clara Allen of 113 Great Tindal street, Ladywood, Birmingham. The CWGC register also states that the recipient had served for 22 years prior to his death.
