Henry Rylands Harry Wylde was born in Wakefield & lived in Hunslet whilst enlisting in Leeds. He served with the 1st battalion of the Royal Munster Fusiliers on the North West Frontier 1908 & first landed in France 13-8-1914 serving with the 2nd battalion. He was almost certainly present during the battalions famous last stand at the battle of Etreuk 27-8-1914 when the battalion was almost wiped out with most men being killed or taken prisoner. The recipient was killed in action at the battle of La Basse 21-12-1914 & having no known grave he is commemorated on the Le Touret memorial. He was 28 years of age at the time of his death & is is recorded by the CWGC as the late son of Elizabeth Wylde of 7 Academy street, Hunslet, Leeds.
