Arthur Greenhalgh was born in Sheffield & enlisted in to the Royal Engineers in 1919. He initially served with the inland water transport in Mesopotamia & went on to spend the rest of his military service attached to the 13th company of the Madras sappers & miners in India & Burma.
He was awarded the immediate Meritorious Service Medal for services in Waziristan & this was published in the London gazette 23-3-1925 & at this point the gazette stated that it was for services in Waziristan between 21-4-1923 & 31-3-1924. He was commissioned as a Lieutenant & QM in the Madras sappers & miners in 1940 & was still serving in 1947 when India was granted its independence.

It is worthy of note that he was initially issued with a WW1 British war & victory medal pair but this was recalled and delated from the rolls as he was not eligible for them.
