Rupert Lees first served overseas with the 1/5th battalion of the West Yorkshire Regiment but transferred to the 23rd garrison battalion of the Lancashire Fusiliers prior to his death. He was killed in action in France & Flanders 2-9-1918 serving with B company of the 23rd Lancashire Fusiliers. He was both born & enlisted in Grimsby & his next of kin is listed as Henry and Lucy Ann Lees, of Croft Cottage, Glebe Rd., East End, Scartho, Grimsby. He was 35 years of age at the time of his death & is buried in Le Grand Beaumart British cemetery at Steenwerck.
