James Chateau McArthur was born in Wavertree 1884 & was given his mothers maiden name as his middle name. He was commissioned in to the A.S.C in 1914 & first landed in France 2-11-1914. He was M.I.D for services in France in the London gazette 15-6-1916 & went on to be awarded the Military Cross in the London gazette 1-1-1918. He served in both France & Italy & was given leave from Italy to attend the investiture for his MC. He took his discharge in August 1919 & returned to love & work in London. The award of the August to November clasp is confirmed on his M.I.C & the MC is neatly engraved on the reverse CAPT.J.McArthur.A.S.C. 1st June 1916.
