Willie Egbert White was born in Corsley, Wiltshire, on 8 September 1880 and attested for the Wiltshire Regiment at Devizes on 7 September 1899, having previously served with the 1st Wiltshire Rifle Volunteer Corps. He served with the 2nd Battalion in South Africa during the Boer War from 14 September 1900, and transferred to the Army Pay Corps on 30 November 1902. Promoted Sergeant on 30 November 1908, he saw further service during the Great War on the Western Front from 18 August 1914, and was promoted Staff Sergeant on 30 November 1916. He was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal per Army Order 106 of 1918, and was promoted Staff Quartermaster Sergeant on 30 November 1919. He was discharged on 6 September 1920, and died in York on 30 December 1939.
