James Inch was born in Ormston, Wishaw, Lanarkshire 30-1-1884 & enlisted n to the Royal Marine Light Infantry in July 1901. He was present on land during the Messina earthquake of 1908 and the award of the Messina earthquake medal is noted on his service papers. He was listed as missing presumed dead 13-11-1916 whilst serving with the 2nd Royal Marine battalion of the Royal Naval Divsion. He was 32 years of age at the time of his death & having no known grave he is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial.
