John O'Brien was born in Lanarkshire & enlisted in Hamilton. He first landed in France 23-8-1914 serving with the 2nd battalion of the Seaforth Highlanders & was sadly killed in action in France & Flanders 26-10-1914. He has no known grave but is commemorated on the Ploegsteert memorial. He was 36 years of age at the time of his death & is recorded by the CWGC as the late son of Micheal & Mary O'Brien of 33 Leonards street, Lanark.
