Edward Henry Gilbert was born in Newcastle on Tyne & enlisted at Wallbottle. He died of wounds in France & Flanders 31-10-1917 serving with the 4th battalion of the Grenadier Guards. He was 40 years of age at the time of his death & is buried in Mount Huon military cemetery at Le Treport. The CWGC state that he was the late son of T.W.Gilbert of Byker & the husband of Margaret Gilbert of Holmside, North Wallbottle, Newburn-on-Tyne, Northumberland.
