COMMDR.W.G.A.KENNEDY.RN (1914-15 Trio)
William George Ainslie Kennedy was born 1873 & commissioned in to the Royal Navy 1896. He served onboard HMS Niobe during the Boer War & landed ashore in the Cape Colony, He served onboard HMS Minerva during the Messina earthquake of 1912 & along with the Messina earthquake medal he was also awarded the 3rd class commander of the order of the crown of Italy which was published in the London gazette 15-4-1912 which states it was for services at Messina. He went on to command HMS Boxer, HMS Syren, HMS Thetis & HMS Diadem. During WW1 he was in command of the armed merchant cruiser India when it was sunk 8-8-1915 & he spent the rest of the war as a prisoner of war interned in Holland. He retired from the service at his own request in 1921.
The medals are GVF or better & mounted as worn. Complete with copy service papers, medal roll details, the original case & forwarding card for the Italian award.
