Sidney Nixon was born in Redcar, North Yorkshire 30-4-1885 & on the outbreak of war he was working as a banker. He joined the R.N.V.R in October 1914 & was quickly advanced to CPO in the 4th armoured car squadron. He was commissioned in to the armoured car section of the R.N.A.S in January 1915 & in February of the same year he was sent for training as an airship pilot. He graduated as an airship pilot in September 1916 but by the end of the war he was serving under the director of operations & inteligence. He was awarded the military O.B.E in the London gazette 3-6-1919 & continued to serve in airship production in the post war years. He is shown as a retired squadron leader in the 1930 air force list & was working as the assistant director of airships at Cardington & in 1938 was at the ballon development establishment as assistant director of production. He can last be found on the 1943 air force list as retired.
