Bernard Doherty from Londonderry enlisted in to the 5th militia battalion of the Inniskilling Fusiliers in 1892 & was attached to the 2nd battalion of the Northumberland Fusiliers for service in the Boer war of 1899-1902. He was dangerously wounded at Nooitgedacht 13-12-1900. He returned to Ireland in 1901 & was discharged as unfit for military service due to his wounds in 1902.
