Robert John Hughes from Wavertree enlisted at Knowsley park & initially served overseas with the 3rd battalion of the Liverpool regiment. He transferred to the 1st battalion of the York & Lancaster regiment with service number 39783 & sadly died of wounds in Salonica 15-4-1918. He was 24 years of age at the time of his death & is commemorated on the Doiran memorial. The CWGC state that he was the late son of John & Elizabeth Hughes of 37 Truro road, Wavertree, Liverpool,
