David Patrick Laing was the son of D.A.Laing of Lalla P.O, Cachar, India & was educated at both Haileybury College & the RMC Sandhurst. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieut in the Royal Irish Regiment 5-10-1910 & advanced to Lieutenant 11-11-1913. He first landed in France with the battalion 14-8-1914 & was wounded on the Aisne 14-9-1914. on the 19th of October 1914 he reinforced the right flank at La Bassee with the four machine guns ats his disposal. He was initally reported as a wounded P.O.W but was later confirmed as having been K.I.A 20-10-1914 at Le Pilly. He was 24 years of age at the time of his death & having no known grave he is commemorated on the Le Touret memorial.
