George Thomson Stewart was both born & enlisted in Glasgow. He first landed in France 21-9-1915 & went on to die of wounds in France & Flanders 9-11-1916. He was 19 years of age at the time of her death & was serving with L company, 3rd battalion, Special Brigade, Royal Engineers. This unit was a gas company and was involved in the production & filling of gas cannisters. The recipient is noted as having died of gas poisoning. He is buried to Cite Bonjean military cemetery at Armentieres & is recorded by the CWGC as the late son of George & Agnes Thomson Stewart of 111 Petershill Road, Springburn, Glasgow.
