Walter John Hendry from Carnoustie was serving with the 1/4th battalion of the Black Watch when he first landed in France in February 1915. He was commissioned in to the Highland Cyclist battalion in July 1915 & went on to serve with the M.G.C Cavalry. He was discharged with a silver war badge in 1918 & returned home to Carnoustie. He emigrated to South Africa post war & died in Johannesburg 6-8-1929.
