William Murdoch lived in Dalbettie & enlisted in Dumfries. He died in Mesopotamia 27-6-1916 serving with the Royal Engineers reinforcements. He was 27 years of age & is buried in Basra war cemetery. The CWGC state that he was the Son of Alexander and Elizabeth Murdoch, of Haugh of Urr, Dalbeattie, Kirkcudbrightshire.
