James Murdoch was born in Langholm & enlisted in Dumfries whilst living at the Haugh of Urr. He first landed overseas in theatre of war 2B Gallipoli / The Balkans 24-9-1915 serving with 1st battalion of the K.O.S.B. He was sadly killed in action in France & Flanders 3-9-1916 serving with the 2nd battalion. He was 24 years of age at the time of his death & having no known grave he is commemorated on the Theipval memorial. The CWGC state that he was the late son of Alexander & Elizabeth Murdoch of the Haugh of urr, Dalbeattie, Kirkcudbrightshire.
