Percy Read was both born, enlisted & lived in Cleckheaton, Yorkshire & he first landed in France 9-9-1915 serving with the 12th service battalion of the Northumberland Fusiliers. He was sadly killed in action in France & Flanders 22-6-1916 & having no known grave other than the Somme he is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial. He was the eldest son of Mr. Fred Read of King street Cleckheaton & prior to enlisted he had worked at for Alfred Hall Ironmongers.
