Joseph Wise was born at Forrest Gate, London 2-6-1887 & enlisted in to the Royal Navy as a boy in 1903. During WW1 he served with the Dover patrol onboard HMS Flirt and was both awarded the DSM & M.I.D for his services in the same London gazette. His M.I.D was on page 7406 & his DSM was on page 7407 of the London gazette dated 25-7-1916. He sadly went on to be killed in action when HMS Flirt was sunk 26-10-1916 & is commemorated on the Portsmouth naval memorial. The CWGC state that he was the late 29 year old son of James Loftus Wise & Agnes Eleanor Wise of London & the late husband of Edith Green (formerly Wise) of Corporation house, Tower Hamlets road, Dover.
