To- EDWARD.FLEETWOOD.BERRY.
The recipient was the son of Mary Fleetwood Berry of Kilgarran, Enniskerry, County Wiklow & the late Venerable James Fleetwood Berry. B.D Archdeacon of Tuam. He was educated at Chard Grammar school & the RMC Sandhurst before being commissioned in to the 2nd Gurkha Rifles. He was awarded the Military Cross in June 1916 & M.I.D 19-10-1916. Both of these awards were posthumous as he was sadly killed in action in Mesopotamia 17-4-1916 at the battle of Bait Aiesa. He was 27 years of age at the time of his death & was serving with the 1/9th Gurkha rifles in Mesopotamia. He has no known grave but is commemorated on the Basra memorial.
