John William Scott was 20 years old & a resident of Easington Lane, Sunderland when he enlisted in to the 1st battalion of the Durham Light Infantry in Sunderland 16-10-1899. He served with the regiment in South Africa from 16-5-1900 through to 22-3-1902 when he sailed for India. He returned to the UK in 1904 and was placed on the the reserve. He was recalled for service in WW1 & first landed in France serving with the 2nd battalion 19-10-1914. He went on to finish his war serving with the Royal Engineers with service number 79126.
