To- LIEUT.G.D.FERARD
George Deas Ferard was born 27-6-1896 & was educated at Winchester college. He was initially commissioned in to the 6th K.R.R.C & was wounded in France with them in 1916 & again in 1917. He was attached to the the 2nd Devon regiment. He was sadly killed in action in France & Flanders 21-2-1918 whilst serving with the 2nd Devon regiment & having no known grave he is commemorated on the Tyne Cot memorial. He was 21 years of age at the time of his death & is recorded by the CWGC as the late son of Henry Cecil Ferard C.S.I, C.I.E & Ida Maragaret Ferard of 22 Bardwell road, Oxford.
The framed photograph of the recipient in uniform has a small piece of shrapnel mounted at the top of the Frame & by repute this is the shrapnel that sadly killed him? The larger tinted photograph shows the recipient wearing a KRRC cap badge & also the ribbon of the Military Cross. The recipient was not awarded the MC. However his brother was awarded the MC but as he was a Royal Artillery officer & was directly commissioned as such this can not be his brother. It must be a mistake by the artist / photographer.
Please not the postal price reflects the weight of the glazed frames & this lot CAN NOT BE POSTED OVERSEAS. I will be more than happy if the buyer would prefer to collect this group from the shop or at a fair?
