Francis John Ashburnham Wodehouse was commissioned in to the 7th battalion of the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry. 14-8-1915 & first landed in France 8-9-1916. He was wounded with the battalion 16-9-1916 & went on to transfer to the Royal Flying Corps as an artillery observer. He was serving with No-9 squadron in August 1917 when he was credited with one kill along with his pilot Captain. A.McDonald. Sadly on the 21st of August 1917 whilst the observer for Captain McDonald they were shot down during a dogfight that involved seven or eight enemy scouts in Jasta 3 or Jasta 11 & both men were killed in action. Ober Lieutenant William Rheinhart of Jasta 11 made the claim. However a duplicate claim was put forward by one of the other pilots.
