QSA, CAPE COLONY, HMS TARTAR, FROM GATESHEAD

William Hamilton was born in Gateshead, County Durham 25-1-1879 & enlisted in to the Royal Navy in 1897. He served onboard HMS Tartar from 19-5-1898 through to 19-9-1901. He was a bit of a bad lad and is recorded as having ran on three separate occasions in 1897 & 1901 & in 1906 a £3 reward was paid to detective J.Burrows for his apprehension. In the end the Royal Navy had had enough & simply dispensed with his services in 1906.
