Robert John Cameron from Glasgow was born 1884 & prior to enlisting he was employed as a newspaper clerk. He landed in France 5-11-1914 serving with the 5th TF battalion of the Scottish Rifles. He had a letter published in the Dundee evening telegraph 5-1-1915 in which he told of his experiences of the Christmas day truce 25-12-1914 when his company swapped bully beef for cigars & exchanged barrels of beer with the Germans. He went on to be wounded in France in April 1915. He however remained with his battalion for the duration of the war & was discharged at the wars end. He lived a long life & died in Birmingham in 1978 age 93.
