William Harris from Smethwick, Birmingham enlisted in to the R.M.L.I in 1903 & served on the China station 1904 to 1906. During WW1 he served onboard HMS Glory at Gallipoli & went on to serve onboard HMS Northbrook, HMS Agincourt & HMS Cleopatra. He took his discharge in 1919 & went on to join the RFR. He was awarded his long service medal in 1926 & had previously been awarded a silver sports medal in 1905 for services during the gun laying competition in China whilst part of the crew of HMS Sutlej.
